JD Bug Scooter Review

JD Bug scooters have been around for over 20 years and are now one of the most popular brands available. They do a great range of scooters from entry level folding scooters right up to top of the range stunt scooters. In this review we aim to highlight some of the best scooters in their range to help you pick the scooter which suits your child. We start with the best JD Bug scooter for young children and move on up to older children and then children who are interesting in doing stunts.

JD Bug Junior Street Scooter

This is a great entry level scooter for younger riders and it built for children aged 3-8 years old. It has a low deck which helps with balance. It is light (2.3Kg) so easy to use and it is small which is perfect for small children. The handle bars are height adjustable so the scooter will last longer when your child grows. The range of the handle bar height takes the total height of the scooter from 630mm to 845mm.

The JD Bug Junior street scooter can be folded which is great for storage or transport in the boot of the car. The only downside is that the folding mechanism can be a little stiff for young children and might have to be done by an adult.

Value for money wise this is a good scooter. At the time of writing it costs £34.95 (see current price) which is not expensive. The build quality is very good but probably not quite as good a more expensive scooter. Whether or not you need to spend more will probably depend on how much use the scooter is likely to get. If you expect usage to be very heavy you might want to look at alternatives such as the Micro Sprite Scooter.

JD Bug Original Street Scooter

This JD Bug is for slightly older children from the age of 6 years old. It is bigger than the JD Bug junior scooter and has a maximum height of 950mm. It weighs 2.78 Kg which is still very light.

The scooter can be folded using a very simple folding mechanism patented by JD Bug. It also comes with a carry strap in contrasting black, and the multi-mount clip which holds the handle bars firmly in place when not in use and being carried.

This scooter is suitable for children aged 6 plus but is also big enough and strong enough to be used by a lot of adults as well (max rider weight 100kg). It is fantastic value for money at £54.95 (see current price) and should last a long time if treated properly.

JD Bug also do a Pro version of this scooter in matt black which is very stylish and only costs a few pounds extra. For more information click here.

The scooter weighs just 3.2kg so perfect for kids who are just learning how to do their first stunds. The wheels are 100mm resin core wheels and are a great entry level wheel for a stunt scooter. The grip tape on the deck is full printed with JD Bug graphics and is anti slip for added safety when performing tricks.
